Port Bickerton Lighthouse Association

Welcome to the Port Bickerton Lighthouse! Located on Nova Scotia’s rugged Eastern Shore, our lighthouse has guided North Atlantic mariners to safety and security for over a century, and continues to do so today.

Since 1997, it has also been the site of the Nova Scotia Lighthouse Interpretive Centre, which is open on a seasonal basis to offer information to visitors about the history of the Port Bickerton Lighthouse and Nova Scotia’s rich maritime lighthouse tradition.

Since May, 2014, the newly-renovated lightkeeper’s residence on site is being operated as both an artist retreat, and as a weekly vacation rental cottage. For further details, click on the Artist-in-Residence Programme or the Residence Rental box on the left of this page.

We believe that lighthouses are iconic symbols which link the past to the present to the future. As such, they deserve to be preserved and protected for future generations to enjoy and respect.

We hope you will enjoy exploring the contents of this website further, just as we hope you will enjoy visiting and exploring the Port Bickerton Lighthouse site itself.

I own three of these rain barrels and besides watering-in my seedlings, I have found a hundred other uses for the water I catch. From just one side of my small back-porch roof I easily fill the two barrels I have connected in succession. I certainly appreciated all the rain I could catch in last summers’ dry conditions.

Cheers!
